Going, going, going, GONE

This week looks a little bit different for my learning project! I decided to outsource and look for tips and tricks for Procreate on TikTok. This wasn’t my first time on Tik Tok, but it was for the first time in a while. I had it last summer, but then when classes started, I forced myself to delete it…it was seriously taking up WAY too much of my time. For anyone who has TikTok, you know that you never just spend 5 minutes there… BUT I decided to re-download it for “educational purposes,” and honestly, it will probably stay that way forever given how many procreate videos I’ve watched. #Algorithms Anyways, I couldn’t believe how much information was out there! I learnt so much and have a hard time believing that I ever would have learnt the things I did if it weren’t for these videos. Okay, now to the good stuff what did I find?! Well here is the first video I watched. I couldn’t believe it. I HAD to try it for myself and the people IT WORKED. Check out my short iMovie to see! Okay, at this point I was SO excited that it worked, and it was not #ClickBait because we are all too familiar with that. I was on the hunt to find my next video and a few scrolls later I found one that BLEW MY MIND. Watch it below! it’s crazy! How many were in Visual Arts 10? The unit where we had to draw spheres?! I’m sorry, circles belong on paper, not spheres (I did not like that unit if you can’t tell). So from my traumatic experience in visual arts, you can understand why I am so blown away by this video. HOW CUTE?! I absolutely needed to try this but who could I use? I wanted to use a cartoon because I wanted a big and I mean BIG transformation. I wanted someone tall, dreamy, big smile, good with animals, adventurous… there was only one suitable option You heard me. SHREK. So I got myself ready, found a “golden ratio” template, and begun! How hard could it be right? Well, well, well let me tell you. When I say catastrophe I mean CATASTROPHE. I was having Visual Arts 10 flashbacks. I can’t believe that I am even sharing this online. WARNING MAY CAUSE NIGHTMARES I warned you…

You Won’t Believe The Ways Media Manipulates You!!

https://guard.io/blog/what-are-clickbait-ads How often do we see article titles like the one above? We have likely all heard the word ‘clickbait’ before, yet too often we cannot help but click and see where it takes us. Why? Well, in the world of  participatory culture in the digital age, we see more and more ways media draws…… Continue reading You Won’t Believe The Ways Media Manipulates You!!

Real or Fake?

This past week in class we talked a lot about digital literacy as well as learning about fake websites/accounts online. As we did the activity in class trying to figure out if the account was real or fake I came to realize that I really cannot tell %100 of the time if the account is real or not. I made my own thoughts and opinions about the certain account and thought they were valid enough however, that was not true. It made me re-think about how I view other accounts online and as well as informational websites. Through my whole life with doing research, and projects for school and using google for information I thought I was being cautious and aware of the sites I was using. But now, this is making me change my mindset and to think about all the possibilities of the websites out there and conduct a reasonable response as to whether or not I can trust the information given to me. It is just very crazy to me that websites could be controlled by someone who knows absolutely nothing about what they are talking about and that they could be anyone, anywhere. As I read through Fake news: It’s complicated it allowed me to think about the certain aspects there are into finding out if the content, or account given is real and trustworthy. Just as we discussed in class, there are certain tips and tricks to follow and check off while looking at an account if you are unsure they are real or not. Checking their profile, pictures, what they have posted or tweeted about in the past, there likes, and retweets, the list goes on. Having this understanding of what to look for as you are searching something or someone up is important to know. Below is a picture from the article explaining certain details to consider while looking at a article, or the news, etc. I think teaching our students about finding the difference between a real website or a fake one should be considered in the classroom. With students doing projects and research for multiple classes it is possible that they will just use the first site that is made available for them because they do not fully understand the difference. This should be introduced to the students to better educate themselves on discovering whether a account/website is real or fake. This can also help them in the future if they ever come into a crossroads and are in a difficult position. In How do we teach students to identify fake new? there are multiple ways in which we the teachers can explain and make aware the strategies for students to comprehend and learn about to better their lives. very simple ways to include into our teachings to make available for our students and to protect them from the horrible things on the internet. There is a lot of fake news and information around us all the time. As I viewed the little article named You’re not going to believe what I’m about to tell you it actually taught me a few things and I was a little surprised while I was reading it. This goes to show that we are told a variety of different facts and information throughout our lives that may not be coming from very reliable resources but we are never aware of that possibility. It is just something we do not think about. In the comic, there were a lot of facts stated given the truth behind all of them and it really did shock me because I had no idea what to believe. Online can be very helpful when using reliable resources and understanding how to tell the difference between a real and fake account/news. This is something I will have to work on and learn more about for the future and to present to my future students!

Garlic-Parmesan Wings

I am very excited for this weeks meal and cannot wait to show you guys what it is! This week I was thinking chicken but I wanted to spice it up a little and try something different. So, I went onto Pinterest (you can never go wrong with Pinterest) and found a really tasty garlic-parmesan chicken wing recipe that I thought I could try! Now, I’ve had garlic-parmesan wings before but in a restaurant and really liked them, so I wanted to give these a try on my own. There were tons of recipes on these wings but with the one I found I already had everything at home with me. The recipe is from TheKitchn that I found from Pinterest. This blog was simple to read and use which was helpful as I was making the wings. They have pictures and easy to follow directions which was great! Also listed were the ingredients which I will have at the end of my blog! Now, lets get right into the wings!! I first started off with washing my chicken wings and then patting them dry with a paper towel. Added my spices consisting of salt, black pepper and garlic powder. I did not follow the right measurements for the spices as I wanted to add however much I wanted. I wanted to make sure these were full of flavour. I then tossed them into the oven at 400 degrees for about an hour. As that was cooking I prepped my parmesan, butter and garlic mixture so it was ready when the chicken wings were done! Once the wings were done cooking and looking nice and crispy I threw them into a big bowl with our parmesan mixture and gave them a good toss. Then there ya go! Homemade garlic-parmesan chicken wings made right at home with only a few simple ingredients. I also made a side salad to go with the wings but that was nothing too special. Overall, I really enjoyed these wings and thought they were very delicious. I would have added more parmesan if I had some but unfortunately, I used it all up 🙁 I would definitely be making thse again in the future for sure! They were so good and had so much flavour. I enjoyed switching it up with making different kinds of chicken wings rather then just simple breaded, or salt and pepper. Ingredients: 1 1/2 teaspoons kosher salt 1 teaspoon garlic powder 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper 2 pounds chicken wings 1 ounce Parmesan cheese, finely grated (about 1/4 cup), plus more for serving 2 tablespoons fresh parsley leaves 3 cloves garlic 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
